Constructive critism
My major issue with it is the setting and the environment. I loved your music selections but you really lacked the palpable feel of being in a horrific situation, you were way to calm. I enjoyed the abstract plot, it reminded me of Assassin's Creed but the plot ended up destroying the fear and the worry of the game.
Dark Cut 2 had a much better feel to it, you actually felt the bullets hit around you and the bombs detonate as they shook the screen. Your hand shook as your poured whisky into the shot glass and you cringed when you were forced to rip open wounds and things to remove bullets. This was far less graphic if thats possible, making it less envolved and more of a whimsy experience.
The interface and how the game was played was also the big thing that hurt. You are automatically given your equipment, and you aren't really punished for screwing up. There was no pressure as long as you kept plugging sedatives into a hand? (Addressed later) After I failed the first mission because I didn't know where the sedation button was I didn't fail another mission because everything was spelled out and aslong as I kept sedation above 80 you could have a power nap because you don't lose any health unless low on sedation. There was less treatment and tools for the patient as well which got irritating. The surgeries went by extremely quickly because you automatically had your toll selected for you, and you just had to read the text and connect dots. Since there was no real timelimit unless you don't sedate the patient you could basically just click around with your knife and try to cut them open which, sadly, didn't have any affect on the patient, infact none of the procedures seemed to hurt these people. The surgeries weren't very well planned out in my opinion they basically all were wipe area, cut open, do an operation-like minigame where you have to pull out object and don't touch sides, then a quick slide of skin back in place if you had to in the first place, some stiches and you are done. Compared to Dark Cut 2, this seems like you wanted people to just fly through it. I am going to avoid comparing the two games other than to say Dark Cut 2 should have won the award for best game of last year, and sadly this deserved second place for a day, and not much more. The surgeries were almost depressing with how short and abrupt they were. Rarely did they require any thinking other than read and connect dots.
While the gameplay was the reason I dismissed this game from my ranks of best flash games, DC2 being the first forever and ever, (Sadly when I saw this on the frontpage I was so happy to have a new favorite game, damn) your presentation of the game was a tiny bit better than DC2. The interfaces were more touched up and more bells and whistles were added like the heartbeat monitors and such, which sadly took up the precious area you could have added your tool selection, and the graphics of things were still amazing. The presentation fell short again though because of its lack of intensity. In DC2 I almost wanted to duck as bombs went off and to wipe my screen after blood sprayed on it, this however was more of a reminder of how cool DC2 was and how this is like some kind of expansion pack to it.
Hopefully the final thing I will have room to rip on before I reach my character limit is how impersonal the game was. By this I mean many things, such as I wasn't scared by this game. I didn't get attached to the whole time travel thing so I felt like I was in a science fiction game where helping these people really didn't seem important. In DC2 I felt horrified by these wounds of people and having to rip them appart to save them. The sawing your leg part in DC2 was great and made you think real hard about how tough that would be.
I am running out of characters so I got to cut this short, I apologize for the critism but I hope you read this and see my point of view. Still a good game, but by was a step down from DC2, I enjoyed this but I felt DC2 to be a amazing experience.
